Сначала закрыли какую-то девочку, у которой на userpicture было изображение с сиськами и ребенком, который оттуда кушал. Закрытие девочки за сиськи многих весьма возмутило: в Америке сиськи нелегальны, кроме тех случаев, когда ребенка кормят грудью, и чрезвычайно развито движение матерей за право кормления грудью. Деятелей этого движения особенно возмущает, когда кормление оказывается нелегально.
Другие пользователи стали помещать у себя разные похожие изображения: сисястых мужиков, картины Климта, абстрактное искусство и т.п. Abuse полезло в бутылку, и пригрозило закрывать уже всех подряд, как они всегда делают при опасности массовых акций. В поддержку Abuse выступил сикс-апарт, и изменил текст правил таким образом, чтоб запретить вообще любые женские соски. При этом были запрещены картинки с изображением множества средневековых мадонн с сиськами, и их обладателям высланы предупреждения о запрете сисек и мадонн, и угрозы заморозить LJ.

as i understand though, it actually started with hardvice being threatened with suspension for an artistic nude bea arthur default icon. he looked up a bunch of communities known for standing up for their issues that would probably also have icons that showed nudity without being distasteful, picked out a bunch of those icons, and reported them for the same "offense" as his -- to make a point. well LJ actually went after the ones he pointed out, and so it began.

This is exactly the same pattern as with a couple of dozens of livejournals from Russian lj space suspended back in June 2005.
People decided to protest the suspension of a particular journal by posting something objectionable which doesn't make sense at the same time - posters and posts "Kill NATO"(which is not the same as "Kill a NATO soldier"). They naively thought that mass suspension will force Abuse Team to realize the absurdity of it's policy. These users were wrong. Abuse Team doesn't give a shit and suspends any journal if there is a complaint - without investigation. The June'05 action also included posts that clearly didn't make any sense, like suggestions to bite NATO, tickle NATO, post naked adolescent pictures of NATO etc. All these journals were suspended. One of the users reported his own journal even without posting "Kill NATO" - and was suspended!

Few authors refused to remove the faulty material, these journals were never recovered. http://lj.rossia.org is alternative space, started by those who refused to comply with absurd requests.

This time it's even worse. It clearly demonstrates that no one is safe. Communities and people who used breastfeeding icons had no intention to be appeared to be at fault according to TOS, modified AFTER they started using these later-banned icons.
