ONE DAY CONTENT STRIKE

For one day, make no posts. Make no comments. Let there be NO new content added to LJ.

SUP obviously does not realize that Basic users have given something of value to them, that it is content that drives the site.

So, for one 24-hour period, from midnight GMT to midnight GMT, let's see how many people we can get to pledge to contribute NO CONTENT.

This will create a permanent downward spike in the daily-posts statistics, a permanent reminder of the power of the userbase.

Date is this Friday, March 21. Spread the word!

Well, better than doing nothing at all.

The idea is simple - we generate content, no content - no space for ad placement, no audience to view the ads.

Mind I come from the country where many of so-called intelligentsia were in-the-know but never did or said anything publicly while very few voiced their protest. Those who kept their mouth shut were pretty logical too, weren't they?

I don't even see these ads, I just see "Advertisement" in place of where the ad might be seen to those who want to see them ot have no means to block them. But I don't like invasive marketing in any shape or form.

Why you are so much against the idea that owners of a service want to earn money from it? Isn't it natural? All of us use their servers, traffic, etc...

From: [identity profile] enot.livejournal.com
No. This is not the point. If you really care to know what's wrong with pretending that users that make the whole advertising business possible (and it's not servers and traffic) mean nothing - follow the discussions in [livejournal.com profile] lj_no_ads etc.

BTW, you have wrote recently that you buy a lot of tea from Uptontea. I am in the process of creating my own online tea store and, if possible, I would value your opinion: what tea do you mostly buy from them, what do you consider fair price, what is important to you, any consumer suggestionss, etc....
Thank you.

If it is better for you to discuss it via email, my email is: vnaroditsky@dkpartners.com

Upton tea keeps history of one's orders and this feature comes handy.
They offer samples of fancy teas (~ 3 tea pots worth) at low price which is also nice.
They sell gift certs. But if you order paper gift certs, the recipient has to call them to redeem th certificate, which is not cool.

Let me give you an idea of sample order via e-mail.

У них можно купить крышечки к чайникам! И чайники и всякое такое. И Самплов хватало на много недель.

Thanks a lot. I thought about displaying purchase history but the downside is that user will have to register prior to purchase. I am often too lazy to fill the registration fields and usually just exit such sites. What do you think?

I plan to sell samples also. And sample sets of 4-6 tins of different teas

Gift certificates is a good idea.

It's easier to place an order next time if you have profile with shipping address and order history. If you ever used on-line grocery stores, you'll know what I mean.
You may offer an option to purchase w/o registration but capturing profile helps to retain customers.

Typically you make money on ads placement by featuring the ads via agreed upon means - radio, TV, etc. - for a certain period of time. Same ads don't run forever, the customer will loose money of ads featuring summer vacation won't run in spring etc. If you fail to fulfill your obligations, you got a problem. A day of failed advertising is a nice way to demo that users do matter.

Totally useless of course (like, does SUP care about LJ at all? -- of course not; neither did 6apart; welcome to the brave new land of venture capitalism). But who cares. The point of doing the right thing is doing the right thing, bla-bla-bla.
